Kiva.org announces partnership with Fundacion para la Vivienda Progresiva

Today Kiva announces its second Mexican partnership, with Fundacion para la Vivienda Progresiva (Foundation for Progressive Housing).

FVP is a non-profit organization which works in partnership with CHF International, a non-profit whose mission is to be a catalyst for long-lasting positive change in low- and moderate-income communities around the world, helping them to improve their social, economic and environmental conditions. In 1996 CHF initiated a home improvement loan pilot project in Ciudad Juarez to assist workers and their families who cannot afford dignified housing due to the population explosion near the US-Mexican border. This pilot project was successful, and with funding from the Ford Foundation, the Inter American Foundation, Johnson & Johnson and other private sector companies, the pilot was expanded to create two non-profit organizations, including FVP.

FVP's mission is to help people improve their housing so that they have basic housing needs: a floor, bathroom and bedroom. FVP uses microcredit programs to help people achieve this through growing a small business.

We're excited to launch our second partnership in Mexico in response to the many requests we've received for Mexican entrepreneurs.

Kiva la Mexico!
