Month of Microfinance: Take action this April

Just like the spring flowers, microfinance student organizations have been popping up everywhere. Microfinance’s combination of technology, global connections, empowerment and ability to address complex problems makes it a natural fit for students. And as a user-friendly online platform, Kiva gives them the tools they need to take action as individuals and make a visible difference in people’s lives.

For the last four years, our Campus Kiva initiative has helped rally, educate, and organize microfinance clubs on campuses nationwide. Many universities have started their own lending teams with huge success. Now, this April, Kiva is thrilled to support the Month of Microfinance, a campaign of student-led microfinance awareness events around the country.

Through provocative discussions, coordinated events and fundraising efforts, this grassroots movement seeks to unite and establish the next generation of passionate micro-lenders.

Current Month of Microfinance events include movie screenings, speaker panels, discussion groups, and more. A full list of registered events can be found here, but feel free to organize and register your own on the campaign’s website.

In the meantime, we would love to hear about your Campus Kiva club or your upcoming microfinance events. Tweet us at @kiva with #MoMF and share your photos with us on Instagram at @kiva_microfunds! We’d love to feature your efforts and stories on the Kiva Blog, as well as our Twitter and Facebook channels!
